Townsend Tennessee is known as "The Peaceful
Side of the Smokies" and for good reason.
Unlike many towns near the Great Smoky
Mountains National Park, Townsend has
withstood the development of amusement
parks, high-rise hotels and has stayed away
from the carnival atmosphere which many
towns
have embraced. So come and walk in the mountains,
ride the bike trails, fish and float the Little
River, go for a swim, visit Cades Cove or simply sit
back on your porch and enjoy the biggest blessing of
all... serenity! By the way, if you do want the tourist atmosphere, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg are a 20 to 40
minute drive across the valley... go enjoy,
then
come home to
rest. |
|
 |
To travel
thousands of years into the past, just leave
your car in the parking lot. During your
vacation to Townsend & Walland, the Peaceful
Side of the Smokies join us in celebrating
the cultural heritage of East Tennessee and
the Great
Smoky Mountains region.

SNAPSHOTS of
BLOUNT COUNTY HISTORY
There are not many gifts available that truly "keep
on giving". For over 60 years Dean Stone, Daily
Times Editor has recorded Blount County's past in
his writings and in his photography. This is
Volume III of his endeavors to share with us the
community he loves. |
