at the Townsend Tennessee entrance
to The Great Smoky Mountains
National Park. The campground is
situated on the Little River which
offers much in the way of swimming,

Camping is the ideal way to
enjoy the natural beauty of Townsend and Blount County at the Great Smoky Mountains
National Park. A variety of camping styles are available at any of the eight full-service
campgrounds located in Townsend. Most campgrounds offer primitive
tent camping, while all
campgrounds have full hook up sites, including water, electric, sewer, hot showers, and
CATV. All campgrounds are on or near the Little River and offer wooded lots and open
spaces. Several of the campgrounds have river sites with wooden decks and cement patios.
Other services available at most of the
campgrounds in Townsend include: RV supplies, gift shops, groceries, deli's and snacks,
on-site RV rental trailers, tent cabins, deluxe cabins, and camper storage. Specific details
and services should be confirmed prior to making reservations.
Townsend is located at the west entrance of
the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and is known as "The Peaceful Side of the
Smokies." The campgrounds listed below are located from 1/4 of a mile to 4 miles from
the entrance to the Smokies.

The National Park has 10 developed campgrounds and 100+ primitive backcountry
campsites.

through October at Elkmont and Cades |

Cove in Tennessee and at Smokemont in North
Carolina. Contact Mistix at 1-800-365-CAMP for reservations. Sites at other developed
campgrounds, which are open seasonally, are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Developed campsites located within the National Park. Camping is limited to 7 days during the peak
season and 14 days during the off-season.
Developed campsites have flush toilets,
running water, picnic tables, and fire grills. There are no showers or trailer hookups. No
shelters are provided; bring your own shelter and camping equipment. The large campsites
also have amphitheaters for ranger talks and slide shows. The Cades Cove Campground Store
and bicycle rental is open for business in April.

The Tennessee
State Parks and Recreation Division offers

customers with disabilities. Reservations
for these facilities can be made through a
toll-free reservation service by calling

Backcountry campsites are also available.
Permits are required. Pick up a free permit at any park ranger station or large
campground. However, some 30 backcountry campsites and shelters are rationed and must be
reserved by calling (423) 436-1231. The backcountry reservation office is open 7 days a
week, 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. Reservations can be made up to one month in advance. All overnight
camping in the backcountry is free.
